“Black Jeep”: Fakemink Targets Better, But Still Needs To Do More

New track produced by Skrillex and featuring Fimiguerrero shows improvement but still feels too thin

Having enlisted the services of production powerhouse Skrillex, UK rapper Fakemink (Vincenzo Camille) returns with another attempt to break the glass ceiling, but the improvement is needed. Alongside the American beatmaker, he taps fellow spitter Fimiguerrero.

Review and Verdict

Skrillex continues to build on Camille’s distorted basslines, with punchy snares and synths. Mink opens up alongside the percussion, and it’s all a mess. Lasting less than a minute and a half, the composition sounds diluted, and sounds little more than an attempt to release music for the sake of it.

His choice of lyrics and public statements allude to a shock-value strategy, and with such tawdry releases it all adds up. In terms of art? There is something to it, but not the kind of art that requires cerebral interpretation. Featured rapper Fimiguerrero offers a reprieve from the experience, with some moments that brood intrigue, but it’s not enough to save Black Jeep. His forthcoming album is titled ‘Terrified‘.
