Cruise will play the role of Digger Rockwell in a new film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu

With little known about Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest film, anticipation will, of course, mount. At first, I thought (based on his silhouette) that Tom Cruise is back as Les Grossman. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Despite his interest in reprising the role, the Top Gun actor will play the character of ‘Digger Rockwell’, a larger-than-life character who, it seems, is a major influence on global affairs.

The Plot

As I said, things are really tight. The studio aren’t letting much slip past their press team’s lips. However, what we do know is the synopsis:

“The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything”.

Do what you want with this information. Despite Cruise’s Tropic Thunder energy in the teaser trailer, it looks like we’re going to get a great movie, no matter what.

The Cast

Cruise will also work alongside fellow actors Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), John Goodman (Fargo), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde (Babygirl), Burn Gorman (The Dark Knight Rises), and Emma D’Arcy.

Release Date

The film slated for a tentative 2nd of October 2026 release date via Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.
