Christopher Nolan’s dramatic teaser trailer for The Odyssey finally hits the internet with promise
Having been swept aside like the good people we are, director Christopher Nolan has finally unleashed the trailer for his forthcoming 2026 blockbuster movie — ‘The Odyssey’. Fans are going into meltdown with a segment of cinephiles giving it the thumbs down, so let’s find out why.
The Trailer
So far, we get an idea of the tone of what we may expect through light, shadows, and dramatic dialogue.
In the trailer, we get a sneak peek at a few antagonists, such as Cyclops (Polyphemus), whom Odysseus fights and wounds by impairing his vision. His presence is briefly seen from afar through bold silhouettes at 1 minute 13 seconds.

We also get a glimpse at what appears to be the Laestrygonians, a tribe of cannabalistic giants, and the Sirens. However, so far, there’s little to go on except for its style and direction, one that appeals to a summer blockbuster showing.
Reaction and Verdict
Some elements are disappointing, such as Matt Damon’s (who plays Odysseus) American accent. It’s oddly placed for a film based on Greek myths and legends. Nonetheless, we’ll hold out judgement until we see it, but this is an off-putting detail. But we’re still cautiously excited.
Some viewers feel the costuming is subpar, though it looks great from where I’m standing. With a fantastic assortment of locations, it’s use of lighting further enhances what is sure to be great storytelling.
The Cast
Starring alongside Damon is Tom Holland (Telemachus), Anne Hathaway (Penelope), John Leguizamo (Eumaeus) Mia Goth (Melantho), Robert Pattinson (Antinous), Lupita Nyong’o, James Remar, Zendaya (Athena), Charlize Theron (Circe), Benny Safdie, and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus.
Release Date
The Odyssey is expected to be released on the July 17th, 2026, exclusively in theatres. It is the first movie to use IMAX’s brand new 70mm film cinematic technology.
