Disc 2 Track 2: Review and Verdict

Not only did we get another track, but Cole chose to drop the video instead of releasing it directly on streaming platforms. The rapper echoes concepts from one of his inspirations, Nas, recalling both aspirational and factual milestones from his life in reverse, through a blend of imagery and music. Opening with a statement, it reads:

“For the past 10 years, this album has been hand crafted with one intention: a personal challenge to myself to create my best work. To do on my last what I was unable to do on my first.”

Piano and warping guitars permeate the track, traveling over a belt of measured bass. The producton, crafted by Obvious serves as a reflective score, luring the listener to contemplate each line. Not only that, but its sound is both a triumph for hip-hop purists and is commercially friendly.

“My grandkids carried the coffin to the altar as they burst into tears from their shirts,
The tears rise to the sides of they face and into their eyes, it’s piercin’ with hurt” – J.Cole – “Disc 2 Track 2”

The rapper’s flow remains a point of auditory excellence, outshining an industry sodden with phonetically rigid motifs. Cole’s expertly delivered wordplay and cinematic vision is a bountifully loaded study of storytelling, one that can teach lyricists the art of delivery and world-building beyond the temptation of easy wins. Directed by Ryan Doubiago, with cinematography by Ryan Marie Helfant, the visuals end with an outro featuring an unnamed track, presumably from “The Fall-Off“.

The Fall-Off Release Date

The Fall-Off is expected to be released on the 6th February 2026, so expect more music to support its roll out.
