“Pointless”: The Adventures of Cliff Booth Looks Far From Exciting

The new film from David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino looks like a lazy cash grab with little substance

2-minute read time

It seems Quentin Tarantino has stepped away from the movie industry, and judging by his last two films, that’s a smart move. However, he’s now back in the writer’s room, bringing the life and times of his Once Upon A Time in Hollywood character to the silver screen. The Adventures of Cliff Booth is on the horizon following the reveal of the first trailer during Super Bowl LX. Here’s everything you need to know.

Plot and the Cast

Directed by David Fincher (Se7en, Gone Girl), it’s piqued our interest, to say the least. The film explores Cliff Booth’s backstory during his early days as a Hollywood fixer. Classified as a comedy-drama, it’s safe to say we can expect to revisit similar moments from his screen debut, hopefully with a little bit more pep.

  • Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
  • Carla Gugino

Production Details

The film is being produced by Plan B Entertainment, Heyday Films and Panic Pictures, with Netflix controlling its distribution. This means it will go directly to streaming. That said, there are rumours of a cinematic release in selected theatres, though nothing has been confirmed.

The Adventures of Cliff Booth: Our Prediction

Hype-meter

Rating: 2 out of 5.

His portrayal in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood came off as watery, with some calling it borderline disrespectful to Bruce Lee. Tarantino defended his choices, claiming Lee was “kind of an arrogant guy,” based on hearsay. Shannon Lee, his daughter, decried it as “disheartening. One thing’s for sure: the film was a pointless, near three hours of fickle viewing, led by structure and very little substance.

Perhaps Fincher can revitalise the universe of Tarantino’s once-laudable series of movies, with a twist on hisiconic screen treatments. However, he himself has run into a spot of bother, having been out of form for some time, crafting only a handful of lukewarm pictures far removed from his potential. This film feels and looks a bit pointless.

Release date

As of today, no official release date has been disclosed, though an expected summer 2026 release is highly likely.
