Nicki Minaj Petition: What This Challenge Means For The Rapper

New petition to deport rapper Nicki Minaj to Trinidad and Tobago reaches staggering milestone

Hundreds of thousands of petitioners have called for Nicki Minaj to be deported to her native Trinidad & Tobago. Support for the move follows her appearance at Turning Point USA, a conservative think-tank and far-right event, and controversial statements she made during her speech and in an interview.

Petition Support

Petitions have taken off at an exponential rate, with signatures on Change.org surpassing 70,000. Tristan Hamilton, the organiser of one petition, which has now reached 35,000 signatures, wrote the following statement in support of his campaign:

“Nicki Minaj’s actions and words have taken a turn that has left many of her supporters and those who once found solace in her music feeling deeply betrayed.”

Controversial Statements

In 2018, Minaj posted to social media expressing shock at the Trump administration’s treatment of migrants arriving to the United States. Admitting that she herself entered the country illegally, she responded with empathy to these disturbing series of events, saying:

“I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5. This is so scary to me. Please stop this.”

However, fast forward to 2025, and the rapper is now openly supportive of President Donald J. Trump, describing him as a “dashing” and “handsome” man. She also ridiculed Governor Gavin Newsom, calling him “newscum”.

Reactions to her remarks have been swift.

At an AmericaFest event, she was interviewed by Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, saying:

“I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president,”…“He’s given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win.”

She later made comments on transgender people, adding:

“If you are born a boy, be a boy,” she told the crowd. “There’s nothing wrong with being a boy.”

Asked by Kirk’s widow why she was only now speaking up, the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper replied, “I just got tired of being pushed around,” prompting applause from the audience. She then added:

“Sometimes you just get tired of it, and then you realize, ‘Wait a minute, I have something inside of me that’s stronger than what’s out there,’” “When you’ve had enough, you realize, ‘Wait a minute, why do I even care about these people and what they think? Who are they? They don’t even know who they are,”

No Legal Weight

Although the petitions have now amassed more than 100,000 signatures, they’re not legally binding. While it reflects public sentiment, the US president ultimately makes the final decision. However, with extraordinarily low approval ratings, he will need all the support he can get. This means, Nicki Minaj is a crucial asset despite the ressure she is up against.
