GTA 6 update: Latest Grand Theft Auto VI news is not what fans needed to hear
Can fans can stop saying, “We got X before GTA 6”? No. Rockstar Games have, unsurprisingly, announced that the long-awaited sequel to their insanely popular video game, “Grand Theft Auto VI” is set to release on November 19th 2026.
However, believe it only when you see it physically in your hands, and doubt it even then. The latest date shift follows a pattern of delays that the juggernaut gaming company is known for, so expect more unwanted twists.
Key Details & Story
The story will be set around the city of Leonida and is heavily influenced by the sunny state of Florida. With motifs inspired by Vice City, the narrative will follow the characters Lucia Camino and Jason Duval.
Rockstar’s Statement
Originally, GTA 6 was meant to be released in 2025, but this was pushed back to the 26th May 2026, which has now been moved to 19 November.
Given the size and scale of the game, Rockstar is probably feeling the pressure, with a need to beef it up with what will likely be a significant story.
What we can likely expect are exclusive music inclusions, celebrity voiceovers, and side-quest expansions. The last thing developers want to hear is that it’s the same game again with better graphics — something the company themselves have said in their official statement:
“Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.
Sincerely,
Rockstar Games”
Concerns
Further delays are likely, given the fast-changing landscape of console gaming. With the need to keep up with competitors, both PlayStation and Xbox continue to overhaul their hardware.
Microsoft recently announced a portable version of its line, and you can bet your bottom dollar another title is in the works.
This poses another problem for Rockstar, who is constantly in talks with each company to better configure its games. The new date is likely due to several factors, including potential new hardware releases.
Can we at least get a new trailer?
Console Platforms
The game is set to be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox, including its X and S series.
