Avengers: Doomsday: Too much information will kill the mystery of a franchise that is becoming a tired cliché
“Avengers: Doomsday” is giving away too much. If you want to know how to execute a phenomenal superhero campaign, look at the build-up for “The Dark Knight Trilogy“. Its communications were reserved, with a seasoning of mystery to keep chatter alive both in real life and online. Its media was almost a whodunnit, with posters and details giving nothing away. This enhanced the cinematic experience, with much to be gained from withholding plot details and snippets from its production.
Spammy Trailers
While some movies have been entertaining, like “The Avengers” and “Guardians of the Galaxy“, the rest have been nothing short of skippable. There’s a certain cliché when it comes to their interpretation of the Marvel films, and the entire issue lies in a rushed, money-grubbing target.

This has resulted in weak scripts and over-the-top marketing rollouts, whereby much of the product is oversold. When we finally get to watch the final product, most of us are all tapped out from too much behind-the-scenes footage, images, trailers, and updates. Their latest run of publicity sees the company pursue the same vision once again, pushing the red button to go nuclear at every opportunity, with exhausting, spammy media.
The hype is way overboard for these films, and studios just can’t seem to let go of its tired formula. Ever since Disney purchased the rights to Marvel and Star Wars, their dedication to the franchises has been nothing short of watered down. Telling us every single thing that is going to happen is bad for this industry. We already know it will be a blockbuster movie, so let some surprises remain just that. Fans would have been far more surprised and appreciative of a twist than being told every single thing that’s going to happen.
