R&B artist Daniel Hex’s Blue is a rich, otherworldly long play
Daniel Hex is an underdog champion of the music industry, delivering a tantalising flow of vocal melodies atop sultry, saccharine compositions. Following the release of his video, “Serious / So Serious“, he now celebrates the first anniversary of Moment I Felt / Blue, and for someone hearing it for the first time, it’s worth repeat listens. In the following article, we will focus on the latter release.
BLUE: A Monumental Work of Music
In the spotlight of today’s R&B scene, the talent pool should be considerably easier to devote attention to. But unfortunately, that is not the case. Sometimes, however, we need something shoved in our faces to take heed; that’s where the chiming voice of Daniel Hex comes in. Fresh out of the studio, the singer delivers multiple anthems of falsetto ballads, blooming with sonorous and honeyed musicality.

Hex spoke on the release of his project, explaining: โIโm proud that moment I felt / BLUE is out. Having my best work just being out instead of on a hard drive for years, thatโs what Iโm most proud of. Itโs one of those albums people can listen to alongside their life experiences and offers them perspective.”
Over 11 tracks, Hex alternates between a swooning wave of melismatic performances and vibrantly tempered production. As heard on “Passion” and “Without,” his motif โ a fluid capsule of multi-generational sonic design โ draws in a wide pool of sounds, some of which appear heavily anchored by notes from the 1980s.
