‘The Last Wun’ Review: New Gunna Album Is a Masterclass in Poor Rap

Latest music from Gunna is a masterclass in low grade rapping

TL;DR

  • Poor rhyme schemes
  • Outdated auto-tune usage
  • Tired production

Another day, another rapper drops a “project” that sounds like a constipated robot on the lavatory, spitting about things they probably cannot afford. Gunna is yet another one of those artists who likely thought this was easy — but as he found out, it’s not. His latest product, The Last Wun, is rotting before it has left the shop.

The Last Wun Is a Chore to Listen to

As the title suggests, let’s hope this really is The Last Wun, because it’s bursting at the seams with tired tropes. The horse he’s riding is dead, yet he continues to beat it, hoping it will yield direction, but there’s nothing left except a lack of true ingenuity.

“Spirit of Ecstasy, cruise in Miss Daisy (Cruise)
I’m floatin’ in the back of the Mercedes” – gp

From start to finish, the album sounds like one long track, and make no mistake, it drags. It’s missing an identity — unless it’s a malfunctioning android, one that could at least show us the direction it’s headed.

Gunna – Won’t Stop

At times, the rapper sounds like he’s stuck in line at an amusement park, holding it inutterly desperate to reach a toilet. It’s a 25-track deep album, the perfect soundtrack if ever you find yourself in such a situation.

The Verdict

Rating: 1 out of 5.

For the most part, Gunna’s off-beat, the autotune is outdated rendering his vocals unintelligble, and the production is paltry — borderline amateur and beyond passé.

Avoid this at all costs. It’s trend-chasing at its finest and a masterclass in the fast-fashion equivalent of music. I can’t even bring myself to mark this out of five.
