New music from the Texas based rapper asks for hip-hop respect.
She’s not pulling any punches. Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete) returns with new single, Whenever, a clinical audit of the hip-hop scene; a landscape that has changed, but not for the best.
What the New Single Sounds Like
It’s a ferociously confrontational pop at audiences and colleagues, projecting an eye roll using each verse as a vehicle. The first bar greets us with choice words for armchair pundits and in reference to those who comment without respect, as she fires venomous pelts of iron: “…twenty-four hours in a day and the first thing y’all h**s do is start hatin’.”

The track is produced by Bankroll Got It and Shawn “Source” Jarret. Mimicking a David Banner-style beat, it’s of a composed stance, allowing Pete to exercise caution as she unloads her tempo with a veracious flow.
The delivery is shrewd, filled with sprawling notes that she is not one to be trifled with: “Make no mistake, just ’cause I’m cute in this b**** don’t mean I won’t run in your s***.”
Music Video
The music video was directed by Zac Dov Wiesel features Megan crashing through a waiting room in a doctor’s office.
It features surreal moments that involve a chessboard, a nod to her power and strategy, as well as a fish tank, enhancing the bold, ethereal and vivid shots captured by the filmmaker.
Verdict and Where to Stream Whenever
It’s a disarming track that hopes to ease in her upcoming album, one we hope will be better than her last. Based on this song, we can expect good things from the rapper.
Whenever available to stream on Spotify, Apple and YouTube Music. It is distributed by Hot Girl Productions.
