The British-American rapper debuted his short at Cannes to accompany his first album in 26 years, “Victory”
Debuting at the Cannes Film Festival, the Victory film was expected by many to be a conventional film featuring Slick Rick.
What we got instead was a 30-minute music video, a welcome addition in an age where the pageantry in presentation and performance is declining.
Victory is an International Journey
Told across the UK, the US, France, and Africa, it starts with Stressed featuring Giggs, which takes us on a tour of London’s gritty streets as the two rappers gallivant alongside executive producer Idris Elba.

What we essentially get is a guided tour, a sensory depiction of cultural exploration. Rick does this well, where the film accentuates distinct epochs and visual moments, including Foreign, and Cuz I’m Here. Nas even makes an appearance for their collaborative track, Documents.
Verdict
Victory’s cinematic journey enhances the album’s themes with a visual narrative. The Ruler was passionate about this project, and this video works as a handbook companion to the album. It’s worth watching, especially for those who may not understand the ambience of its locations—particularly London.
