Super Pocket Rare: HyperMegaTech!’s New Device Raids Epic Titles

New gaming system from Blaze Entertainment’s HyperMegaTech aims to delight fans longing for a trip back in time.

UK gaming hardware brand HyperMegaTech has unveiled its new piece of pocket tech, the Super Pocket Rare Edition, the successor to the Super Pocket. This time, Blaze Entertainment brings a list of officially licensed Rare (famed for Donkey Kong Country) video game titles.

Official trailer for The Super Pocket Rare Edition from HyperMegaTech.

The Device

The newly announced system comes preloaded with 14 Rare games and is part of the company’s Evercade gaming ecosystem. Originally released on Nintendo and PC, the system includes a long line of classics, such as Banjo-Kazooie and Battletoads.

In collaboration with Microsoft, Rare’s parent company, the latest gadget was created in partnership with the software behemoth. This new alliance avoids legal pitfalls that have plagued pirated devices for years, such as Anbernic and Powkiddy.

As a retro handheld option, it taps into nostalgia trends and collectors’ hype of small-screen throwbacks like the Game Boy. It hosts a modest quad-core processor running at 1.2 GHz and 256GB of MB DDR RAM.

The device features a 2.8-inch IPS screen and a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The battery is rated at approximately 4 hours of life.

The Games

The Rare device comes preloaded with a number of fan favourites, including some games that didn’t get the praise they deserved at the time of launch, such as the Battletoads series, which, if handled correctly, could yield an explosive series of titles.

  • Atic Atac
  • Banjo‑Kazooie
  • Battletoads
  • Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
  • Cobra Triangle
  • Conker’s Pocket Tales
  • Gunfright
  • Jetpac
  • Knight Lore
  • Lunar Jetman
  • R.C. Pro‑Am II
  • Slalom
  • Snake Rattle ’n’ Roll
  • Solar Jetman

Buy the Device

The Super Pocket Rare retails for $49; however, as of now, the item has completely sold out, though third-party stores and marketplaces may still stock the HyperMegaTech Super Pocket and its Double Pack.

Verdict

While the console sold at an affordable cost, it immediately sold out. This only emboldened the scalping trade, with some marketplaces listing it at approximately $250. Is it worth it? No. Will fans buy it anyway? Yes. The solution lies in greater stock circulation, and the gaming industry’s will to satisfy fans, not starve them.
