New Busta Rhymes & J Dilla album returns to the boom-bap source and births a new edge of sonically rhythmic rhyme and production

Page updated: 26 August 2026

Busta Rhymes opens his new track with J Dilla saying, “We love D’Angelo,” before the late singer begins vocalising in his trademark voice over a posthumous Dilla beat. Taken from their new album, Dillagence 2, out now, it sits as a mark of the art and class of an era that continues to filter into the present. Following the reveals of “SPAZZZ” and “Talk Ya Shit” featuring Lil Wayne, we knew we were in for a treat, and the sugar rush is about to start.

Dillagence 2 is already off to a safe start, with all the affluence you come to expect from a J Dilla-produced album. Busta’s usual level remains consistent, and we should really talk more about that — this album truly represents the philosophy of his game.I’m glad more albums are rejecting the Friday rollout, as it gives us sustenance for the mid-week blues, and this effusive sense of hip-hop is a comforting grenade laced with the soul of the sound. We often forget to inject the hip-hop into the genre, but this album is hitting all the notes, ones and twos, too. It’s also great to see young rapper La Reezy invited onto the album alongside titans of the industry, where he once again does what he does best with his euphoric style on the sequel to the duo’s 2007 release.
