Central Cee’s new track sets the tone for his upcoming UK rap EP
There’s a subtle shift in the air from Central Cee and J Hus on their new track, Slaughter. In a UK rap landscape bloated with superfluous releases and redundant drops, it’s increasingly difficult to stay on top of it all with the real gems too often slipping under the radar.
If style and artistry consistently stagnate, there’s little motivation to return to an artist. However, Central Cee and J Hus’ new joint is a pleasant surprise and it delivers exactly what it says on the tin.
Slaughter: Review and Verdict
It’s a shame this same energy wasn’t brought to his debut album, but let’s move forward. This time, Central Cee employs a flow rich in wild phonaesthetics, compounded with storytelling finesse. The proof is always in the pudding; you don’t force-feed your mind when it won’t accept it.
“Yo, let me get back in the car quickly
Before they ask, “Can I get a pic’ please?”
We got a pole, but it’s no strip tease
But there’s dead presidents in the air indeed”– Central Cee on “Slaughter”
This time, Cee pulls up to the studio with a readymade rocket, while J Hus injects a foreboding sense of drama through melodic vocals as the two reciprocally prime each other. I never thought I’d enjoy a Central Cee track, but this single is a pleasant surprise, with every element scripted to enhance the track’s and the rapper’s canvas.
Production Credits
Particular credit goes to the producers, Fumes Beats, IO, OHNINE, Aaronorage, and YJay., who have concocted a track that amplifies the irreverence of its message. Equally, its mixing engineer Jonny Leslie and mastering engineer Joe LaPorta have polished a song with delectable intent.
‘All Roads Lead Home’
Slaughter is taken from his forthcoming EP All Roads Lead Home, scheduled for release on March 19th 2026.
