Massive Attack return to music following a decade of creative remission. The duo, clearly inspired by recent political events, release their new single, “Boots on the Ground”, an anthem for our times.

Tom Waits Adds Texture and Balance

Featuring the gravelly vocals of Tom Waits, it chronicles unchecked authoritarianism amid a host of political actors, both seeking regime change and total control.

Massive Attack are heavily vocal in using their performances to highlight ongoing struggles in a multitude of places, including Palestine and other conflict zones.

Filled with clicking and clanking, almost factory-like in spirit, it feels as if everything is disposable. This is further amplified by the song’s music video, which showcases photographs from across the world. “Boots on the Ground” offers a possible sonic signature of an increasingly criticised and militarised police force.
