Fresh vibe sees the rapper pair hip-hop with Afrobeats inspired production.
Wretch 32 (Jermaine Sinclaire Scott) is London’s indelible mark on the scene. He continues to scale new musical heights, this time alongside Nigerian star Teni.
On a stripped-back production, the two team up for a song taken from his forthcoming album titled, Home?
What It Sounds Like
The production’s atmospheric pairing with lyrics of an ambient nature sees the rapper unveil his latest song using elements of Afrobeats. Alongside sparingly implemented vocals by Teni, the singer lavishly executes a delivery that complements the rapper’s repose.
Scott’s album is set to cover topics of belonging, displacement, and Black British history. The lead single itself is a tribute to the sensory ideations attributing home to scenarios and moments in time.
Expanding on the song, the artist said: “Some things remind you of home, the things that smell like home, the things that look like home, the things that taste like home, this sounds like home so it feels like home, welcome to my house.”
Verdict
It’s an incredibly mellow vibe, and one reflective of the notions of the title that simply melt in your ears. This is part of a spectrum of UK hip-hop that is missing, the other part is, avoiding such labels to allow rappers to produce music reflective of their personalities; something Wretch does to a appealingly good degree.
Where to Stream
The new single can be found on Spotify, Apple Music as well as YouTube and Amazon. If you’d like to pair his new release with a visual, the music video is above.
