Israel continues to destroy civilian districts in the Palestinian Gaza strip despite global outrage.
Despite the outcry of millions of people including prominent politicians, journalists and celebrities, Israel continues to pound the Gaza strip with artillery and airstrikes.
Fifty-three Palestinian civilians have been killed including 14 children and more than 300 have been wounded. Six Israelis have been killed.
The UN’s Middle East envoy Tor Wennesland said of the conflict: “The cost of war in Gaza is devastating and is being paid by ordinary people. Stop the fire immediately. We’re escalating towards a full-scale war.”
Israel’s Defense Minister, Benny Gantz, stated that Israel will not stop until there is “complete quiet” saying: “Israel is not preparing for a ceasefire. There is currently no end date for the operation. Only when we achieve complete quiet can we talk about calm.”
Global outcry has intensified with people on both sides including independent politician Andrew Yang controversially tweeting that he stands with Israel. One Reddit user was quick to point out the number of prominent politicians and celebrities in opposition to the strikes on Gaza, including actor Henry Golding who said of Yang in particular – “You are an actual tw*t”.
The global outrage and backlash against Israel’s actions intensified when Facebook and Instagram came under fire for censoring any mention and hashtags regarding Palestine. They have since apologized.
