The latest music video from ASAP Rocky has both disappointed and divided his fans

A$AP Rocky has disappointed fans twice in the last few days. His new music video for “SHROOM CLOUDS” appears to contradict the rapper’s previous statements on AI, as he now leans on the technology, frustrating fans. The song was originally recorded in 2021 under the title “Mushroom Clouds”, before the artist changed it in favour of a more digestible name. It finally received its official release ahead of the second disc of his album, Don’t Be Dumb Disc 2, though a release date for the project has yet to be revealed.

New and Questionable Visuals

The Don’t Be Dumb vocalist claimed he preferred to do things “practically”, though he appears to backtrack following the release of his new music video for “SHROOM CLOUDS”. Hip-hop fans are particularly disappointed, with online comments. ranging from “F— this guy for using ai” and “AI is really invading all of my interests out in the open now smh, while another called it “disgusting.”

Only a week ago, the hip-hop artist, whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, told Complex magazine: “Me, personally, I prefer to do things myself, practically.”

However, he later said: “But who am I to say what’s standard and what’s not?” It’s almost as if these statements were made in anticipation of visuals he knew would cause controversy.

Rocky, 38, could be facing a potential storm in the making, having recently associated himself with Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays Ali G, by publicly supporting his upcoming film, Ali G: Who Iz I? The comedian has faced accusations of perpetuating stereotypes of the Black community, both historically and in connection with his forthcoming film.

The video is co-directed by Rocky and Aisulton Seitov and Pietro Biz Biasia.
