Fresh album follows renaissance of veteran rapper releases.
Legendary producer Diamond D has dropped a new album, The Diamond Piece 3: Duo, featuring a tonne of familiar names. With little promotion and low-key artwork, it features boom-bap style production that will be sure to grab the ears of DITC fans.
With just ten tracks, it enlists rappers who have all but disappeared from the radar. Notable for providing beats to groups such as Cypress Hill, Brand Nubian, and Outkast, listeners will be happy with the line-up that D puts forward. This latest release marks the third instalment of his LP series.
What It Sounds Like
Classic beat drops and creative wordsmiths will get your gears rolling. Launching explosively infectious flows, the roster of names on this long play are fermented with experience only veterans can acquire. The difference is night-and-day when comparing verses to more contemporary rappers.
Full of tropes that hip-hop heads will appreciate, there’s a quality set of bars and uncongealed flows flying around. It’s energetic, complemented by a list of artists signing up to jaunt on a Diamond D beat.
B-Real, Everlast, Sadat X, and Lady Luck all step up to unleash choice vaunts of fiery flows. Recognisable by voice alone, they step to the mic for a whirlwind tirade of rap that will surely entertain.
Verdict
The Diam Piece 3: Duo is a fun album, though it lacks a theme. More a classic for the boasting of one’s skills, akin to a Kid Capri or a Tony Touch project, it revives an intensity sorely lost.
Despite this, the production feels slightly dated, reflected in its marketing and artwork. But this is made up for through its no-strings-attached attitude and is definitely worth listening to. One thing is for sure, legends of the game are not done yet and still have some juice in the tank that will outsprint younger rappers.
Where to Stream
The Diam Piece 3: Duo is available on all virtually every streaming platform including Amazon, Apple, Tidal, Pandora, Napster, YouTube Music, and Spotify.
