‘Yesterday’: Review and Verdict

The track welcomes us with a decent production, one that retains the listener’s interest over its three minutes and thirty-second duration.

Flaunting distorted bass and heavy synth use, it transfixes attention, though there is much to be said about the rapper’s lyrical efforts.

Far from the exploits of UK rap’s savants, Yesterday relies heavily on shock value rather than artistic elevation.

Lyrically, it feels forced, blunt, and long in the tooth. Its strongest feature is repetition, which in some cases can be considered profound if executed well. Unfortunately, it often inspires clock-watching, longing for undisputed penmanship. But it never comes.
