Imran Perretta directs debut film featuring Joy Crookes
National film institution BFI has released the final trailer and poster for Ish, is the debut feature film written and directed by London-based multidisciplinary artist Imran Perretta.
The Plot
Ish is set and filmed in Luton, in the heart of its South Asian and Middle Eastern communities, and follows 12-year-old friends Ish (Farhan Hasnat) and Maram (Yahya Kitana).
The story unfolds against a backdrop of political tensions in an all-too-familiar environment that many across the diaspora will recognise.
However, their friendship is tested when a stop-and-search incident leads Ish to panic and run away, leaving Maram behind to face the consequences. Mercury Music Prize winning singer-songwriter Joy Crookes makes her acting debut Ish’s sister Samira as well as support from seasoned actors Sudha Bhuchar (After Love, Mogul Mowgli), and Avin Shah (Everest).
Release Date
The film is slated for a UK and Ireland wide release on the 31st July 2026.
