The BFI is set to celebrate the world of body-horror director David Cronenberg with a series of thematic programmes.

Mind, Body, Reality season, a celebration of David Cronenberg’s films, is set to take place in London early next year. One of the masters of oddities, sci-fi, and horror is getting his own dedicated film season courtesy of the British Film Institute (BFI), featuring a range of the director’s best work, including some lesser-known and hard-to-come-by titles.

From January, the body-horror creator will descend on London with a schedule for aficionados in a programme rollout consisting of three phases. They are Mutated Identities, Diseased Realities, and Bodies in Collision.

Curator of the David Cronenberg: Mind, Body, Reality season, Mike Muncer, said: “For over 50 years, the Canadian filmmaker has consistently pushed the envelope of genre filmmaking with confrontational movies that combine pulpy thrills with big, intellectual and philosophical ideas.”

Fans of the filmmaker will get a chance to experience some of his body-horror exploits in their original 35mm format on the big screen, screams and all included. Some notable titles that stand out include the rarely available movie Naked Lunch (1991), starring Peter Weller (RoboCop, 1987), and, widely considered to be one of Cronenberg’s finest works, Crash (1996).
