New York’s scene has eased off the throttle of late, with other stepping to the plate. Mark Saunders is a bastion of the hip-hop scene representing the region with a missile like pen.
Featuring counterpart lyricist, Jay Cinema, both crush it on their new drop, Unsigned Hype.

His game is strong, and to prove it, the rapper released a track clarifying his microphone dexterity.
Offering a fresh take on the renowned column as a posthumous dedication to the feature, both reveal an infectious flow. He may have missed his opportunity, but they unquestionably fits within its remit.

The two trade bars over a jazzy soundtrack, complete with a 1990s-esque fragrance for those in love with its sonically pure era. Both introduce a cadence and stylistic potency that channels a disposition of the time, and it almost feels like we fell into a time slip.
Hi-hats crack alongside a slipping track of snares, bolstered by an accompanying bassline. Woodwind instruments provide the aroma of much needed flair, complementing the eccentric flows of both spitters.
Verdict
The single’s title is a nod to a feature in The Source — the decade’s best selling hip-hop magazine. An authority at the time, it awarded a rare five-mic rating for album’s that cooked, and arguably launched the careers of rappers like Nas and De La Soul.
Alumni for the unsigned hype section included Common, The Notorious B.I.G., Mobb Deep, DMX, Eminem, and David Banner.
Saunders aims to be pitted against the aforesaid giants, and his penmanship is likened to the fluidity of alternative acts; ones that definitely should be recognised more. The rapper silently demands appreciation, and for that, we should give him flowers for each bar he drops on this solid sound.
