New album from Mick Jenkins & greenSLLIME hits every note but suffers from its short duration
Mick Jenkins is one of the most verbally devastating rappers in the game, and his new album, A Black Ass Kung-Fu Flick, sees him collaborate with producer greenSLLIME to put out one of the most impressive works of hip-hop in 2026. It’s no understatement that the duo has put out a work with sounds many artists would miss, and this release will stand the test of time, with one caveat.
Inspired by blaxploitation cinema and kung-fu and martial arts imagery, the double team releases sharp bouts of demonstrable skill. As heavy as it sounds, both Jenkins and greenSLLIME are not messing around as they pack heat through a surge of valiant verbiage.
The two artists synchronise across 10 tracks of boom-bap music and quintessential lyrical accelerants. A BLACK ASS KUNG-FU FLICK has impressed rap fans across the board, and includes production from Conductor Williams on “Iron Lungs” and BURM on “Tai Chi.”
Verdict: A BLACK ASS KUNG-FU FLICK Is Sweet But Too Short
While Jenkins steals the show with impressive bars of iron-forged showcase, it certainly has everything purists and fans desire. The only issue is its duration: clocking in at 25 minutes, with some songs barely scraping the two-minute mark, it’s more of an EP.
