Robert Pattinson launches into outer space in new Sci-Fi film from Bong Joon-Ho.
Having wooed the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with his satirical work ‘Parasite’, Bong Joon-Ho returns with his next film titled ‘Mickey 17’.
Starring Robert Pattinson, it has been adapted from the book by Edward Ashton – ‘Mickey 7’. The title differences refer to the protagonist’s story arc, in which he is replicated seventeen times. In the book, it is seven.
What’s The Plot?
It follows Mickey Barnes, who is described as being an “Expendable”, who is part of a mission to the ice world Niflheim.
His assignment is part of a program to colonise the planet, but he is tasked with dangerous work which is often fatal. To counter this, his body is regenerated several times with most of his memories recovered, too.
Mickey’s intentions for signing up to the program are largely inspired by his boredom of Earth, which is when he decides to sign his life away.
It has been described by those who have seen it as a sci-fi black comedy. And, judging by the trailer it looks to be a lighthearted watch thanks to the character’s overly goofy approach to life.
Who is Starring in it?
The film stars Toni Collette (Hereditary), Mark Ruffallo (Dark Waters), Naomi Ackie (Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody), Steven Yeun (Minari) and of course, Robert Pattinson (The Batman).
Where Was The Film Shot?
The movie was mostly filmed in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, UK, at Warner Bros Studios. It was completed in a relatively short time, starting in August 2022 and finishing in December 2022.
The film cost approximately $150 million to produce.
