Despite having achieved remarkable success in the realm of feature-length films, Lynch has recently returned to television, with one of his most notable recent projects being ‘Twin Peaks: The Return.’ This 18-part series marked Lynch’s comeback to the iconic television show after an approximately two-decade hiatus. The series garnered significant acclaim, sparking debates regarding its categorization as a TV show or an 18-hour movie. Distinguished film publications such as Sight & Sound and Cahiers du cinéma even included it in their lists of the best works of 2017.
New David Lynch Show Is Coming

In a recent report featured in ProductionWeekly, subsequently picked up by various media outlets, it has been disclosed that Lynch is presently involved in a new series project with Netflix.
While detailed information about the series remains limited, it has been revealed that the working title for the project is ‘Wisteria,’ which is named after a fast-growing flower known for its resilience and capacity to thrive in diverse soil conditions. The significance of this title remains unclear, leaving open the question of whether it carries deeper symbolism or if it is simply a temporary name.
Keen-eyed observers have also noted Lynch’s presence at Netflix’s offices in Los Angeles during the summer. Furthermore, there are reports suggesting that Lynch intends to produce a series comprising 25 one-hour episodes for Netflix as part of this project.
Lynch’s has a history of collaboration with the streaming giant, as evident in his short film ‘What Did Jack Do?’ available on the platform. In this film, directed by Lynch himself, the narrative revolves around a talking monkey accused of a crime and subjected to interrogation by Lynch.
To date, neither Netflix nor Lynch have officially confirmed the reports or rumors surrounding this project. Nevertheless, Lynch did share his admiration for cable television and the opportunity it provides to continue telling stories in a recent interview with THR. He emphasized the artistic freedom available in this medium and suggested that, despite certain technical limitations, television’s potential for ongoing storytelling makes it a distinct and evolving form of artistic expression.
