New pop music from the UK singer previews upcoming album.
PinkPantheress (Victoria Beverley Walker) returns with a new pop single titled, Tonight. As part of a forthcoming album, the Somerset based artist tees up new projects fresh off a ride with global sensation, Ice Spice.
Speaking on her fresh song, the 23-year old singer said, “I’m so excited to finally bring out the first single of my new project. I hope everyone has as much fun listening to it as I do.” The track was initially released via the stats.fm app on March 28th of this year.
Bridgerton Style Music Video
The new release was paired with a music video featuring Bridgerton inspired aesthetics and dance choreography. “The Tonight music video is out now honey, we went bridgerton mode tf,” she tweeted.
The visuals are directed by Charlotte Rutherford and reveal a spectacle of 19th century-era decor and fashion, complete with a gramophone record spinning DJ.
What Tonight Sounds Like
As expected, there isn’t much happening here, though its lyrics entertain through a simple, comedic output.
Cross pollinated with a brand of cheesy 1990s sounding dance pop, it’s a light and fluffy effort. It may need some editing to be considered radio friendly, thanks to lyrics such as, “You want s*x with me? Uh-huh.”
Despite its explicit chorus, the track is produced by Walker herself and showcases dedication to clarity of sound. There’s an innate professional and specialist audio she creates, even if it may not appeal to a broad range of listeners.
The Verdict
As an instrumental, it offers a perky, intriguing listen, though its vocals distract from a decent effort. It needs something, and perhaps adjusting the delivery of a showcase that’s largely a spoiled performance is the solution.
Being different within the music industry is necessary to increase visibility; but forced distinction comes at a cost—banality.
Where to Stream it
PinkPantheress’ new release can be streamed via Tidal, Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and more. Tonight is released through Warner Records UK. You can stay up to date with the artist on TikTok and Instagram.
