More than a year of fighting has left cities, towns and villages in ruins, but Ukraine believe they can reclaim lost territory.
Kyiv: Chief negotiator for Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, told the Guardian newspaper that “it’s a complicated process, which is not a matter of one day or a certain date or a certain hour,”…“it’s an ongoing process of de-occupation, and certain processes are already happening, like destroying supply lines or blowing up depots behind the lines.”
The cogs are all but in motion as intensity ramps up to clear out the last of Russia’s occupying forces which most Ukrainians refer to as “orcs”. Oleksiy Danilov, told the BBC yesterday that the large-scale offensive could come at any time including “tomorrow”, or “in a week.”
However, Ukraine’s supreme miitary commander General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi released a statement via the social messaging app Telegram that read: “it’s time to get back what’s ours”.
General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi’s declaration was accompanied by a cinematically produced video of Ukrainian troops preparing to enter the battlefield over dramatic music.
Ukraine has been the recipient of nearly $50 billion in military aid, a stunning figure which included equipment such as the NLAW anti-tank missile system, drones and other infantry hardware. After months of international debate and requests by Kyiv, Ukraine is set to receive fighter jets which they believe could be the missing piece of the puzzle to finally quell their neighbours.
Ukraine’s government announced their plans just as anti-Kremlin groups from Russia launched a stunning cross-border raid into Belgorod. It is believed the group was attempting to shut down access to Russian infantry.
Russia has been pushed back to the brink of collapse, with the army now dropping Soviet-era bombs from warplanes. Having encountered major losses, it is thought Vladimir Putin has enlisted prisoners to fight with the promise of early release.
Earlier this month, US officials claim a drone attack on the Kremlin was most likely orchestrated by Ukraine’s SBU (Security Service of Ukraine).
