Former US President Barack Obama appeared on a podcast, answering the inevitable question in a quick-fire Q&A
Last updated: 16 February 2026
Former US President Barack Obama has appeared on Brian Tyler Cohen’s podcast, and he was asked the obvious question. But he didn’t get the obvious answer in return.
At a time when disclosure around extraterrestrial life appears to be taking baby steps, further revelations on the topic come as little surprise. From the “FLIR1”, “Gimbal”, and “GoFast” videos confirmed as authentic by the Department of Defence, to a growing public openness and discourse around the phenomenon, it is far from surprising that the 44th President of the United States would speak so candidly on the subject. Here’s what he said.
Obama Confirms Alien Life Exists?
Despite not acting in an official capacity, the former US President took it upon himself to answer a few questions, including the inevitable one in a ‘lightning round’ on Cohen’s podcast.
BRIAN TYLER COHEN: So I want to do a little bit of a lightning round here, because it’s not often I’ll get access to the president of the United States. So a couple questions here. Are aliens real?
PRES. BARACK OBAMA: They’re real, but I haven’t seen them, and they’re not being kept in, what is it —
BRIAN TYLER COHEN: Area 51?
PRES. BARACK OBAMA: — Area 51. There’s no underground facility, unless there’s this enormous conspiracy, and they hid it from the president of the United States.
One thing to keep in mind is that when interviews with world leaders are scheduled, they often receive the bulk of the questions in advance. The fact that this formed part of a quick-fire question-and-answer session towards the end of the podcast alludes to a tight-lipped scenario.
Clarification
Following the furore that surrounded his comments, Obama took to social media to clarify his comments. In a statement, he said:
“I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention let me clarify. Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.” He further tempered the situation regarding his time in office: “But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really”.
Disclosure Nearing
According to many documentary and investigative journalists, rumour has it that Donald Trump is preparing to announce the existence of extraterrestrial life. However, we’ve been here before with Bill Clinton and just about every other world leader.
That said, Obama has rarely been part of the conversation. One thing is for sure: it seems the public can handle such an announcement, because we’re all talking about it openly, and it doesn’t seem likely to come as a shock.
