Find out what we’ve been listening to with our picks for the best new music this mid-February
New music has dropped with plenty of variety this week. But how do you decide what to listen to? We wind down to a medley of everything from velvety soundscapes to hip-hop and R&B, including a legend making her return to the scene.
Jill Scott – To Whom This May Concern (R&B/Soul)
Following the release of her most recent single, Pressha, the R&B/soul artist unmasks the rest of her new album, To Whom This May Concern, a project that has been 11 years in the making and features a host of talent, including Tierra Whack, Too Short, Ab-Soul, and JID.
Eliza – Major (R&B)
In a timely manner, Eliza reveals her new track, Major, teaming up with bansuri flute player Hasheel. The single is a timid yet haunting production calling for self-discovery. Just like its message, it feels fleeting in its demand to reject an effervescent theatre of commercialised chaos, urging listeners to return to a more principled way of living. The track is taken from her forthcoming album The Darkening Green, out on 4th March 2026.
Truman – Beer Knights (Rap)
Truman has been quietly pin-pricking the scene and, before we know it, he might just take it over. His latest single is a direct spoken-word performance courting rap, filled with clarity and a moreish flow. Beer Knights delves deep into working-class distinctions and the subtle harm left by intergenerational trauma. His discourse is both sharp and reflective, confronting unchallenged motifs that need recognition.
Brent Faiyaz – Wrong Faces (R&B)
A brooding tension pulls back the curtain on a track soaked in desperation and longing before Brent Faiyaz quickly takes the reins, branding it with his trademark, sultry vocals. Reaching into empty pockets of hope and desire, the singer marks his anticipated return with his third studio album, Icon.
Danny Sanchez – Dessa (Rap)
Slowly walking at his own lightning pace, Danny Sanchez drops his new track, Dessa, enlisting beatmaker Gaptoof for a prudent observation on the state of his journey as an independent artist. In a statement, the UK rapper said: “Dessa is about not being there yet, but knowing you’re on the right path”.
Mariella – Room For You (Indie Pop)
Mariella revisits the idea of falling in love with her new single, Room For You, an acoustic-led, laid-back tune brought to life by an appealing ensemble of instrumentation. Her soulful voice delivers an effortless self-meditation, tapping into the pangs of a historic love.
