Rapper Macklemore releases new statement on his removal from Ed Sheeran’s The Loop tour
Updated: 15 September 2026
Macklemore has been removed from the Ed Sheeran tour, and he has a few things to say about it. The Lego House singer’s tour promoter released a statement that said: “We have been notified by venues on the upcoming US tour dates that they will not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup.” The dispute follows pop singer Pink’s opposition to Macklemore’s role as an opening act.
According to the “Thrift Shop” rapper, he was told by Sheeran that Robert Kraft was behind the move and claimed the Gillette Stadium owner had rallied other venues to oppose his performances.
In a statement released on Instagram, the rapper said: “I’m going to speak from the heart.” Releasing a concise yet well-written speech, he highlighted that he “is not a victim”, and nor are Ed Sheeran or Pink, because “we get to go home to our families”.
Fan backlash
Music fans were quick to dismiss Ed Sheeran, with some criticising him for “taking the side of the oppressor” due to his neutral stance.
One social media user quoted Macklemore (real name Benjamin Haggerty), highlighting what appears to be a veiled critique of Sheeran’s stance: “There is no neutral position between the oppressor and the oppressed.”
They added: “Dude was cooking.” Another quipped: “I guess I can add Ed Sheree’s to my f*** you list”, while another said: “Guys, Ed is not a good guy, need to accept that now”.
However, Haggerty remarked that he hopes this isn’t the end of his relationship with Ed, adding that “Thirteen years of friendship doesn’t disappear because of one painful disagreement.” Read the full statement below.
