Opinion: Ed Sheeran’s response to Macklemore’s removal from his tour is snivelling corporate speak
Another day, another sappy pop music career saver. Ed Sheeran’s response to Macklemore must have cut deep for the rapper, whose own statement classified Ed as a “brother”. His response? That he “asked to join my tour last year and I agreed, because I respect him as an artist”.
The generic goblin singer has never really created music of note, aside from generic garbage capable of driving you to the bottle.
After being accused of stealing ideas and melodies (see “Thinking Out Loud”) from his contemporaries, you’d think he’d up his game and create some music we can love. Instead, he churned out insufferable numbers and was again accused of stealing music for “Shape of You”.
Today, Ed Sheeran released a statement in response to Macklemore’s social media post about being dropped from his The Loop tour. It was a cold, calculated press release and, to be honest, he needs a new firm, because whatever this was just made him seem like an evil genius.
In his statement, he says: “I am not complicit. I have my personal views on this devastating conflict.” So, what are they? Coming from a man who said:
“I spoke with the venues at length all week to try and build a bridge. One of those people was Robert Kraft”,
whom Sheeran also described as “super sweet” in 2022.
From where I’m sitting, remaining in a business relationship with a man who was charged with soliciting prostitution during a wider investigation into suspected human trafficking — and whose legal team included an attorney who had previously represented Jeffrey Epstein — should render you a bygone.
“I am not complicit”, the pop artist claims; however, his opening acts, which include Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe, Beoga and Finneas, seem to disagree, and have since abandoned the tour because they want no part in what has become a morally bankrupt roadshow.
