‘Can’t Rush Greatness’: Central Cee’s Massive New Album is One of Survival

We break down what to expect from the UK rapper’s hyped debut LP

Last updated: 21st June 2025

No matter what you think of Central Cee (real name Oakley Neil Caesar-Su), it’s hard to deny that the British rapper has made an impact. However, finding himself within a subsection of hip-hop, it’s safe to say he won’t be finding his name atop any ‘best rappers’ lists.

Despite satiating fans in the meantime, hunger is growing amongst his listeners. Having released several tracks in the past few months, we had a semi-clarified idea of what to expect from Can’t Rush Greatness.

Album Details

In the last few days, he’s dropped a new song with Stormzy and Skepta and talk is growing.

Distributed by CC4L (his own music label) and Columbia Records, the album’s theme is rumoured to be centred on his upbringing. With the focus on the split of his parents, we expect it to be personal on a range of subject matter for the multi-genre artist.

Sound and Style Overview

Considering Cench’s catalogue, this represents a thematic development for the artist. Lyrically, his content remained within a vacuum of restricted artistry, and his proliferation as a lyricist seems to be fire-walled.

Stylistically, Caesar-Su is limited for flair and for the most part, entertains a vapid delivery that some would describe as banal.

REVIEWED: Central Cee Lacks Skill On Pointless Can’t Rush Greatness

An appearance on Ice Spice’s new album showed some promise, but it’s an incline characterised by a typical vocal inflection. Described as pop-rap, perhaps he isn’t too concerned with impressing skill upon his peers. If that’s the case, he’s got a long way to go before such a calibre is achieved.

Either way, a dense upgrade is required to compete with the best. It’s a common understanding within the hip-hop scene (with exceptions) that commercial success isn’t generally compatible with musical adroitness, which may explain his formula.

Sonically, Cee’s collaborative effort with Dave, Split Decision, was more of the same. And while his partner-in-rhyme excelled in some areas, it was a far cry from his own acclaimed album.

Current singles, gen z luv and BAND4BAND ft Lil Baby don’t raise suspicions of increased effort. Aurally, they’re regimental and clichéd through a mired and dated production.

His compositions—largely made up of drill and trap-style beats—need work and risk alienating regular listeners. Combined with a monotonous vocal timbre, it’s hard to justify listening to a full project. Considering he’s flying the flag for the UK scene, I personally hope he pulls off something of note. As one of the few UK rappers to be played overseas, he’s obviously doing something right, at least on the commercial side.

Release Date and Fan Buzz

The album’s release date appears on course for a January 24, 2025 launch.

Followers of the artist have exclaimed their excitement on social media. One listener said, “He needs to tour the world too,” while another commented: “I am so freaking hype. This album is going to be straight fire. I hope he releases a vinyl version.”

Criticism of his work largely stems from his lack of authenticity, with one spectator stating: “…the stuff he raps about he has never done.” Some music lovers find it unbelievable that he is the preferred candidate in the US to veteran artists.

Artwork and Cover Design

The artwork features the rapper sporting a British Union Jack hat, wearing rings that say: ‘Can’t’ and ‘Rush,’ spelling out the title of the album.

Alternate cover art recently surfaced (below) though its ambiguity might cause some visual issues.

Final Thoughts

Based on his current catalog, you can anticipate little variation or change, but don’t expect a masterpiece.

While his lyricism fails to generate buzz or attract attention from more seasoned wordsmiths, crowds of people are patiently waiting for the album’s release. If you’re ok with hearing more of the same, then it’s going to be a good year for you.
