Collaboration is a return of the breath of Chino XL against a backdrop of sampled sounds and ‘90s-esque vinyl scratching.
We’ve been waiting a while for Chino XL to drop something new and this latest outing is a little surprising as it is but a symbol of his, Stu Bangas, and Vinnie Paz’s limitations in wordplay and rhyme skills. Rather than move forward into a realm where it should be easy pickings for a line up of such talented rappers, their choice was to regurgitate writings that conflict with the notion of progress for artists that should have evolved by now.
Still clinging to the old school way of sampling beats, this dark and lacklustre production choice fails to send for any vigour into the music department. What we are left with are a group of rappers that not only banish the notion of their former greatness, but embrace the good old days for kicks.
From its inception, Hip-Hop has evolved from one sound to another, but in today’s era, the idea of putting something out for the sake of it has become commonplace without concern for quality control. There is no doubting the skill of this collective, though, where is the new material? We don’t even have a press release or up-to date photos of Chino.
