Opinion: Pop star Pink’s grift to get back into the mainstream sees her rejected by potential listeners

We’re not missing much from pop singer Pink, and in fact, she’s doing those on the fence a favour by diverting them from wanting to dive into her music. Her recent comments, along with sharing a “StopAntisemitism” post on Instagram about Macklemore’s “free Palestine” and “Hind’s Hall” comments — Macklemore is currently supporting Ed Sheeran on tour — didn’t go down as well with the wider world.
Macklemore continues to support Ed Sheeran and has said he cares not if his career comes to an end, saying: “If I’m putting my business, career, or Instagram followers above using my platform to speak out against genocide… what does that say about me?” He continued: “Wanting all humans to be treated equal should never be controversial,” before asserting: “I don’t care about a brand deal.”

Pink’s cryptic remarks
Pink, however, has never directly addressed the backlash she received and instead posted like a petulant personality, remarking: “Being liked by everyone is a clown’s job.” But, considering the industry she has chosen to work within, that’s literally her job. She later said: “If they want to paint you as the villain, then pose.” Honey, you’re not posing — that’s just you.
Her inability to read the room and discern logic following years of Israeli persecution of the Palestinian people merely surfaces the grifting and opportunistic ideals she stands for. Like most entertainers, when their careers stall, they say the most absurd things — like what many rights organisations have called Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.
No one was “ambushed” by his pro-Palestine comments. If you bought a ticket to an Ed Sheeran concert knowing Macklemore will perform the warm up, then that’s on you. Don’t be outraged, you knew his stance on the matter.
Far from antisemitic, calling for a free Palestine is the right thing to do, and if you cannot look past the derangement of a government whose establishment was far from acceptable from the start, then what does that say about you? Parroting the talking points of a country that stands to benefit from the suffering of others places you right at the centre of a horrific precedent.

The public is waking up
The good thing is, the public is no longer falling for the vitriol and PR copy-speak of such an appalling regime that is no better than its partners. There’s no shortage of funding for the Tel Aviv machine led by Netanyahu, who recently admitted that its government knew about an impending attack, calling the concealment of that intel a failure.
Let’s be honest, if they know, he knows — there’s nothing more the Israeli state would love to do than wipe Palestinians off the map, which it has been doing since its inception. Its cloak-and-dagger approach to foreign relations now sees it publicly threaten its so-called allies, such as the United Kingdom and others.
Netanyahu also declared social media the new battleground and recently shared that it will invest billions into an influence campaign to win over AI search, including popular platforms such as ChatGPT and Claude.
