Case brought by Julian Sapp quashed on a technicality as Sean “Diddy” Combs avoids another lawsuit

A lawsuit brought against music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs has been dismissed by a federal court. The 15-count civil case was quashed by a federal judge and brought by Las Vegas-based entertainer Julian Sapp; the judge presiding over the case said: “Combs’s motion to dismiss is GRANTED.” Sapp is an adult entertainer/stripper booked by an agency for the Bad Boy Entertainment CEO for a private strip show for $1,500, according to court dockets.

Sean "Diddy" Combs is currently serving time in prison while facing a host of lawsuits and ongoing legal challenges.

Allegations Not Disproved

Sapp accused the rapper formerly known as Puff Daddy of sexual assault, trafficking, coercion, violence and drugging. Combs contested the allegations, fighting them through his lawyers and asking the court to dismiss the case.

Judge Jennifer L. Rochon did not rule that Sapp’s claims were false. However, she dismissed Counts II–XV on a technicality, as they were filed outside the relevant limitation periods, finding that both Sapp’s forced-labour and sex-trafficking claims had expired before he filed the lawsuit. Rochon said: “The Court declines to exercise supplemental jurisdiction over Count I, which is dismissed without prejudice.”

The remaining New York City claim was dismissed after the federal court declined to retain jurisdiction over the case, which has now been closed. Sapp may be able to pursue that claim in state court.
