New trailer opens up cavern of intrigue with Lady Gaga set to steal the show alongside Joaquin Phoenix.
After months of anticipation the latest teaser trailer for Joker 2 has dropped with lots of talking points. Stretching the character of the DC antagonist to new realms of interest only further widens the lens of comic book adaptations. It could also inspire other intellectual properties to rethink their approach. However, given recent memory, it could also spectacularly backfire.
The trailer broods atmosphere
It begins with Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Dark Knight’s adversary in a psychiatric hospital cell, presumably solitary for a reason. He is then escorted out before catching a glimpse of Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, who is in a room with patients participating in a choir exercise. A narrator then hints at the movie’s musical elements: “we use music, to make us whole. To balance the fractures within ourselves.”
With some striking cinematography on show, it looks set to live up to the hype. Though questions remain; how far can you take the Joker without his counterpart protagonist ‘Batman’? We will find out, alongside perhaps what limits the director Todd Phillips will hit, if any at all.
