SZA Finally Makes Up With Exciting Deluxe Album This Friday

New album Lana to include new songs, SOS extras, and fresh exclusive artwork.

After months of waiting for a third album, SZA fans woke up to the news this morning that the reissue of SOS as a deluxe version will drop. The new album will consist of outtakes from the SOS recording sessions and post-release material.

Lana, the premium edition of her second LP, has been teased for several months. This Friday (20th December) will finally see its released as a repackaged version of her highly acclaimed project sequel. The 2023 release earned Rowe nine award nominations and three wins for her highly acclaimed record, including a Grammy.

New Song Drive is the Lead Single

SZA expressed her love for Ben Stiller’s TV show Severance, in which the plot follows Lumon Industries, who use a medical procedure called “severance” to separate their employees’ consciousness. The workers forget their work life when returning home. This led to an unlikely collaboration.

Announced on social media, Ben Stiller stars in the new video.

The singer, 35, posted a teaser to social media for an upcoming video (directed by Bradley J. Calder) featuring the actor, sitting in a car lip-syncing to her upcoming song Drive. The Meet The Parents star can be seen vibing in his ride to the new song, having a fun time as the R&B star’s music blares amidst torrential rain.

How Did the Ben Stiller Collaboration Happen?

Stiller was cast in the visuals for the song Drive, thanks to Jimmy Fallon, who brought her tweets about him to his attention on the primetime talk show.

This is not the first time SZA has teamed up with celebrity actors for her productions. Vivica A Fox reprised her role as the Tarantino character Copperhead for her song Kill Bill.

What You Need To Know

It met with critical success, earning multiple awards and chart trimuphs. The singles Good Days and I Hate U were certified platinum by the RIAA and reached the top ten (9th and 7th respectively) of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Other songs, including Kill Bill, reached number 1, and Snooze peaked at number 7. Next year, she will co-headline a tour with Top Dawg Entertainment and Kendrick Lamar for the Grand National Tour.

Teasers for the long play have included several photographs of Rowe in and around a ranch, hinting at the possibility that this project will hold focus on the theme of nature. These include the suspected album cover, featuring her in a yellow tent, wearing a headdress of leaves, and another showing her lead a horse dressed in a football jersey (see featured image).

SZA – Kill Bill (Official Music Video)

The artist and longtime collaborator, Carter Lang, penned more than 100 songs for the album, with this continuing after its release in anticipation of Lana. It will be released via TDE and RCA Records.

Who Will Feature On The New Release?

The regular version of the album hosts appearances from Travis Scott, Phoebe Bridgers, Don Toliver, and a posthumous verse from ODB. Though a full tracklist has not been released, we have confirmation that Lizzo will feature. We can speculate on potential contributions. Considering her recent double feature on Kendrick Lamar’s new album GNX, we may see this gesture reciprocated by the New Jersey native, given the proximity of their releases.

SZA – Saturn

So far, six songs have been confirmed for the release will be Saturn, PSA, DTM (Diamond Boy), Boy from South Detroit (featuring Lizzo), Cry Baby, and Joni.

Having recently worked with Darkchild, Babyface, and Lang, we can expect potential collaborations with them once again. However, that doesn’t rule out work with alternative beatmakers considering the variety of talent enlisted between her first and second albums.
