Irish film is a classic in the making, highlighting desperation under fog of war.

Set during Taliban rule, The Breadwinner tells the story of a young Afghan girl ‘Parvana’ who disguises herself as a boy to support her family following the imprisonment of her father.

Adapted from Canadian author Deborah Ellis’ novel of the same name, it is directed by Irish animator Nora Twomey who founded the animation studio ‘Cartoon saloon’.
