R&B Sensation Ana Morris Channels Spirit With Powerful Vocals

The R&B Queen is just getting started but has already claimed musical territory of her own

Sometimes an artist trickles into our lives to give us the vibe we’re looking for — and other times fully tune us in for what we needed to hear.

Ana Morris – With You

Ana Morris is a vocalist with a clean musical score to her name; growing up in Indianapolis, she’s carved out an impeccable body of work and hopes to add to it again soon.

With authenticity driving her music, she’s carved out a mood that is uniquely hers yet also takes us to a place of early 2000s sounds. We spoke to her about her work and what’s next on the cards.

What do you think everyone should know about you?

“I think everyone should know that I create from a real place. Music is my truth. It’s not just about melody and catchy songs to capture an audience. It’s the way I articulate myself. It’s my emotions, my experiences. I want people to feel seen when they hear my music, whether it’s healing, inspiration, etc.”

How do you perceive yourself before and after you started creating music?

“Before I was creating music, I was just someone that kept it inside. I didn’t always know how to express it. But after I started creating music, it became my outlet. I turned my pain into purpose and moments into art. I started finding my voice.”

How does your hometown influence the way you craft your art?

“My hometown shaped my perspective in a few ways. It gave me stories and the people around me. Shoutout to my music colleagues and friends “hidden talent”. Being around them and inspired by how we’re all different but from the same city sparked new ideas and gave me more to say in every lyric and melody.”

What inspired you to write ‘With You’?

“Where do I start? I love this one. “With You” was inspired by longing for a love quite like the lyrics. It was part of my imagination & really like a manifestation. I want a love like that. I wrote the song to reflect how I would want someone to make me feel. A love that makes you question where they’ve been your whole life. A love that you can’t compare to anything or anyone because they’ve got it “just like that”. No words, because the love speaks for itself.”

Ana Morris – Fly Away

It’s been a while since it dropped. Is there anything in the works?

“Yes, it has been a while, but the time wasn’t wasted. I’ve grown, healed, found clarity and now I’m creating from a deeper, more intentional place. Homesick is a single of mine that will be released this June. This one is nostalgic, bittersweet, and very soulful with a warm energy.”

‘Dark Nights’ is a departure from your signature R&B sound. Which style of delivery do you enjoy more?

“Honestly, that’s a tough one. But if I had to choose, I’d say ‘With You’. That one is special in its own way. It really had me step out of my box and create something so beautiful. The process from the melody, the beat, the live guitar. It has a special place in my heart.”

Is there a specific part of the songwriting process you feel is overlooked?

“Yes the hook! The hook pulls the whole song together. It’s such a delicate part. You don’t want to do too much or too little because it’s what really captures a listener’s ear. When I create a song, my goal is to feel like a listener at the end. That’s how I know it’s finished; when I can get into the song as if I didn’t create it. When the lyrics come alive and give me goosebumps.”

Thinking about your influences, who have you grown further from, and is there anyone you’re beginning to admire more?

“I wouldn’t say I’ve grown further from anyone. I’ve always loved Whitney since I was a kid, and she’s still in my rotation. Her range is impeccable something I still try to incorporate in my sound. As for newer admiration, I’d say Coco Jones and Sasha Keable. Amazing voices and range, and their recent releases are really good.”

What non-music influence has had the biggest impact on your work?

“I would honestly say life, the experiences, the emotions, the relationships, the healing, and the growing. All of that has shaped my work and had the biggest influence.”

Where is the place that reminds you most of how you write?

“Honestly, my room or my car; late at night when it’s quiet. It’s like my little sanctuary. It’s where I’ve cried, reflected, and had conversations with myself. That stillness brings out the most unfiltered parts of me.”

Do you have any upcoming shows we should know about?

“Nothing on the calendar just yet! I’m in my creative season. But the next time I hit the stage, it’s gonna be something special.”
