The film takes a Superman-esque narrative, as Prince Adam discovers his secret family legacy as the Royal Heir of Eternia. After coming to terms with his inevitable calling, he returns home to reclaim the Power Sword in hopes of vanquishing the evil Skeletor.

Questionable CGI Sparks Polarising Fan Reaction

Following months of speculation, a teaser trailer was followed by a full-length promotional clip. One of the best castings has been Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, while Camila Mendes takes on the role of Teela, and Alison Brie becomes Evil-Lyn.

One controversial casting raised eyebrows; Jared Leto was cast as the film’s antagonist, Skeletor, though for the most part his face is obscured by CGI. However, some commentators think this is a good thing, considering the actor’s polarising career.

Its director, Travis Knight (Bumblebee), hopes to unlock childhood nostalgia for the Mattel franchise. So far, some fans are impressed, and while we’re yet to see the film, it’s certainly a spectacle.

But, let’s be honest, it’s tacky and packed with terrible CGI. And while one could argue the source material is campy, there’s no reason to follow in its footsteps. These thoughts and more are echoed by fans on several platforms. One Reddit user said: “Studios realised pretty quickly that lord of the rings level effort isn’t really necessary for selling tickets”, while others believe the appetite for a He-Man movie has passed.

Release Date

Masters of the Universe is slated for a cinematic summer release in theatres on June 5 2026.
