As J.K. Rowling swims in her Harry Potter money, we’re subjected to yet another potential devolution of film and television.
What’s the point of making a television series for a beloved story that isn’t at all that old? The Harry Potter film franchise is still fresh in the memory, and it appears the vultures of television have, once again, tapped another vein to bleed the franchise dry.
Another Fad?
HBO’s new series will bring couch potatoes everywhere another round of the Potterverse. Is it a continuation? Nope. It’s yet another remake.
In the trailer, we see everything we’ve seen before, though little to galvanise fans other than fresh locations that ultimately offer a different take on what we know already. And guess what — it’s all very meh looking,
Does it look good? No. Will people feign interest? Yes. Just like Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings adaptation, I suspect this too will be a terrible iteration of an intellectual property that will forever be stripped of its pulp until the juice is diluted. One thing’s for sure: as J.K. Rowling swims in her money like Scrooge McDuck, other studios are bound to be watching and getting poorly developed ideas.
