Spoiler-free ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ Review – “It’s terrible” | Movie

Blumhouse’s latest film reeks of awfulness, in a movie that falls short of expectations.

VERDICT:

Rating: 0.5 out of 5.

There was some anticipation when approaching this movie, largely due to the announcement of its production some time ago. However, with Blumhouse at the helm of its direction, there was little excitement when gleaning its catalogue of underachievements, such as “The Conjuring” and “Megan.”

What is The Exorcist: Believer about?

When his daughter, Angela, and her friend Katherine begin to exhibit unmistakable signs of demonic possession, it sets in motion a harrowing sequence of events that compels Victor Fielding, a single father, to confront the depths of malevolence. Overwhelmed by fear and desperation, he embarks on a quest to find Chris MacNeil, the sole living individual with prior experience in dealing with such sinister forces.

What is it like?

Aside from Lidya Hewett’s performance, the rest of the cast underwhelmed through a script that felt like it was written on the back of a throwaway storyline. The plot consists of a disastrous narrative that follows the same ambiance as “Halloween Ends (2022)” (awful), with injected moments of CGI that remove the viewer from an already depleted atmosphere, thanks to it hinging on the back of ‘remember that?’ imports from the initial instalment of Willem Friedkin’s adaptation.

Full of lukewarm plot mechanisms and unnecessary harks back to its original origins, thanks to copy-and-paste tactics, David Gordon-Green fails yet again in the horror genre. I guess we can say he tried. Even that is a stretch. In short, it’s terrible.
