Tom Cruise revives comedy persona in new trailer for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s DIGGER
The first and highly anticipated trailer for Tom Cruise‘s upcoming fall film, DIGGER, is here, and there’s a lot to unpack. The heavyweight actor still commands a hefty acting fee and possesses the skill to justify it. Following the conclusion of the highly successful Mission: Impossible saga, the Hollywood movie star’s new film is directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu (The Revenant) and produced under Legendary Pictures, TC Productions, and M Productions, and is a joint production between Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The Plot
Cruise is virtually unrecognisable, sporting a receding hairline, an older appearance, a bigger belly, and a Texas demeanour, while his co-star Riz Ahmed also undergoes a dramatic transformation alongside John Goodman, who plays the President of the United States. The film is a dark comedy.
When the initial teaser dropped, we weren’t sure what to expect, but now that the main promotional trailer is here, the picture is clearer. Undergoing an exceptional transformation, Tom Cruise plays the film’s title character, Digger Rockwell, the world’s most powerful man whose company’s activities unleash environmental disasters, including tsunamis, radioactive contamination, and the threat of international conflict. However, instead of stepping down, he becomes obsessed with proving he’s the man who can save the world.
