President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cited retaliation as his motive for striking Yandex facilities

Yandex, the Russian technology company, has temporarily paused operations at its Vladimir data centre following a drone strike. Its facilities in Sasovo and Kaluga were also reportedly hit.

At present, Cloudflare data indicates that bot traffic accounted for 99.5% of requests from Yandex’s network. This proportion alone does not establish the impact of the strikes on automated traffic.

Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy said: “…they have been hitting and continue to hit our data centres. We are responding. I can’t share all the details.”

Russian official representing the Vladimir region, Alexander Avdeyev, released a statement on the situation, and said: “Drones attacked infrastructure on the outskirts of Vladimir. A fire broke out.

The important distinction is that these reports do not indicate whether the affected traffic was linked to Russian disinformation. Ukraine likely had its reasons for striking the facilities, though it’s not yet known whether the strikes were carried out to soften the impact of “bot and troll armies”.
