Clarity Liao – “Love You More” (Official Music Video)

You’ve been making music for a long time; what’s kept you focused and in form?

When I have a vision to create a song, I keep working on it. I finish with it, and it keeps the inspiration.

Your music sounds like listening to a diary; is it charmingly raw yet easy to listen to — what musicians or artists have influenced your style?

Olivia Rodrigo is my main inspiration. She influenced the music I write.

Each of your visuals feels like a vlog-style music video. Would you agree with that?

I am still experimenting with visuals and trying to create story- type music videos.

How has San Francisco shaped your sound?

I listen and take inspiration from all the world, not just San Francisco. I tend to find myself wondering, along about everything.

You play both the guitar and piano. Which of the two has inspired your songwriting more?

Definitely the guitar, it’s my main instrument. It’s easier to pick up a tune and work on it.

‘Love You More’ has a fascinating sound, and you wrote the song a while back. What took so long to release it?

The process altogether, releasing a song takes a while.

You’ve released three songs so far, and both the piano and guitar take the lead on each single. What emotions should we keep in mind with those choices?

Thinkable is a powerful insight into a teenage girl’s unrequited love life.

You’re part of Navillera. Is the group still together?

Yes. We practice every week.

The Navillera sound contrasts with your own; would you say you pursued a solo career to chase your own ideas?

Yes.

You’re early in your solo career. What challenges have you found working alone?

It’s quite lonely. It’s less fun, you don’t have others to share problems with.

If someone were hearing your music for the first time, what’s the one track that best represents you right now?

“Like I do” is my favorite release so far, and the song that best represents me is coming soon.

Do you have any shows coming up that your fans can expect?

I would love to, but I will have to wait
