Pakistani Taliban said they were responsible for the blast. A claim they later denied.

The bomb blast that killed 100 people in a Masjid in Peshawar was caused by a “security lapse” according to the police chief of KP (Khyber Pashtunkhwa). Approximately 300 people, largely police officers, gathered for prayers when the bomb exploded around 1pm. Ninety-seven of the one hundred dead were members of the police force.

Moazzam Jah Ansari, police chief of KP province, told reporters they were closing in on a network of insurgents who have so far managed to evade authorities.

Ansari said: “Those on duty didn’t check him because he was in a police uniform… It was a security lapse…”

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP also known as the Pakistani Taliban) claimed responsibility for the attack. but later denied any involvement.

Ansari added: “We found ball bearings used in a suicide jacket from underneath the rubble yesterday.”…“This was a suicide bomber. We have obtained CCTV footage of his movements from Khyber Road to Police Lines. He parked his motorcycle at the side and was in a police uniform wearing a mask and helmet…”

So far no one has come forward to claim responsibility for the attack.
