New hip-hop from one of the UK’s trailblazing rappers delivers a work of drill fire

Kenzo Str8Drop ramps up his knack for creating catchy hooks and side-swiping, head-knocking rhymes. Following the release of his new album, Hood Exit, the rapper reveals a new music video to accompany the drop, with tastemakers and genre aficionados going crazy for his new album, which is one of the best this year.
Opening his latest single, “Like Me II,” with “Let me set the tone,” he certainly does so with a ferocious attack on the beat, as the bell tolls alongside bleeding snares and bruising basslines. This isn’t the only time he fires off a huge set of vernacular blades; Kenzo let off warning shots before this on “Opp Weather” and “Who Needs Enemies?”
Hood Exit is laced with venomous narratives of a lifestyle replete with proverbs and an unending roster of punchy production influenced by late-’90s-to-early-2000s hip-hop, paired with the delivery of a drill rapper who can take on a thick mass of varying compositional styles. It’s quite a work of music and throws salt in the wound of a lot of mainstream rappers, who will surely see this as a wake-up call to adjust their identity to suit an ever-changing game. Kenzo’s got it on lock.
The Verdict
This time, he’s not messing about, as he continues to run the music gauntlet with an impressive array of tracks for rap fans both at home and abroad. This is one to take note of, and if you can’t appreciate it, we can all admit that this is at least the spark that lights the fuse.
