Multi-genre artist Miss Lilly continues to impress with explosive new music.
She’s producing some of the most memorable work of recent times for a host of music lovers. Miss Lilly recently dropped her debut single, Runaway, and today reveals her sophomore release, Wrong City.
Taking ears hostage with an arresting sound and vivacity, her new vibe is the moreish sound of now. Stanisland Magazine spoke to the pioneering pop artist about the sound she so effortlessly produces.
What’s Wrong City about?
“Wrong City is about feeling lost in a place that’s always been so familiar. It’s that feeling when reality as you know it is skewing and slowly turning into turmoil. It’s chaotic and I feel like that’s really reflected in the music and the effect it has on you. It starts with the verse and then you get thrown straight into the chorus which feels like it’s building up to something bigger but then you’re back into the verse again. We wanted to replicate anxiety and chaos in the track for the listener to experience.”
Who is the track for?
“The track is for anyone who feels misplaced and like an alien in the world because that’s why I wrote it. That was how I was feeling. It’s also for someone who wants to dance around their room with headphones on because why not.”
Who produced it?
“My brother, Cassell beats, produced this song. We make all my music together and it’s great because we never have to explain anything to each other. There’s a certain spontaneity you can approach things with when you’ve grown up with someone and your influences and roots in music are practically the same. The talented Kbeats was on the additional production alongside the genius instrumentalists JJ Nwafor and Tyrique Gabbidon.”
What genre would you consider your music?
“I can’t put a genre to my music and I prefer to keep it that way to be honest. It’s just me. I make music to make people dance and feel heard. That’s the bottom line with all of my songs.”
Your music is vibrantly catchy. How do you maintain the sound, and what inspired it?
“We maintain the sound by staying spontaneous and not locking ourselves down. Pulling from within instead of listening to a specific sound and trying to replicate. The biggest inspirations for my music are rare groove, new jack swing and old school r&b just to name a few!
